World premiere: Poppy introduces free e-scooter rides to its shared cars

Poppy, the shared mobility venture of D’Ieteren Automotive, introduces a new feature named Combo Rides. This feature, the first of its kind globally, enables users to transition between Poppy's wide range of vehicles within one journey. 

The company announced this new development to help its users face urban challenges like increasing congestion and parking issues in city centers. By allowing to plan and book a trip with multiple vehicles – from e-scooters to city cars, SUVs, breaks, and vans – Poppy hopes to improve the convenience of shared mobility and reduce car usage where it is inefficient.

Poppy’s CTO Thibaut Nguyen - who led the development of Combo Rides - explains: “We believe in simplifying every journey, empowering our users to effortlessly transition from an e-scooter to a car, and from a car to a van, all in a single reservation with a smart recommendation engine. This is a world-first commitment to making shared mobility more convenient, efficient, and enjoyable. It was our most requested feature!” 

Poppy lists three use cases that are now possible with Combo Rides:

E-scooter to car 
One of the primary functionalities of Combo Rides is the ability for users to ride an e-scooter to their reserved Poppy car or van. The company offers the e-scooter trip for free.

Flexibly changing vehicles 
Another use case allows users to interchange between different car models during their trip. Such flexibility caters to varying user requirements, be it a need for more space or a different vehicle type.

Last-mile by e-scooter 
For those navigating through congested city centers or facing parking challenges, Poppy's Combo Rides provides an option to conclude the journey on an e-scooter after parking the car. This solution targets the often-cited "last-mile" problem in urban commuting. Users are incentivised to drop off their cars in Park & Rides and enter the city by e-scooter.


From multimodality to intermodality While multi-modality allows access to a range of different vehicle types within one offer, intermodality is about using multiple types of transportation in one journey. In recent years it has become a key objective of many city authorities, as it provides flexibility for commuters, helps reduce traffic jams, and promotes a greener urban environment by reducing inefficient car usage in city centers.

POPPY CONDEMNS THE DAMAGE CAUSED TO SHARED VEHICLES FOLLOWING THE BELGIUM/MOROCCO 2022 MATCH IN BRUSSELS 

This Sunday, after the football match Belgium-Morocco at the World Cup, outbursts took place in the streets of Brussels, and some vehicles of shared mobility were vandalized, destroyed and burned. 

Football is a respectful sport, and victories must be celebrated with the utmost res- pect for public order as well. The sportsmanship was not present everywhere yesterday afternoon. Sport should remain a pleasure and not an opportunity to create outbursts and breakage in the streets of Brussels. 

Poppy Mobility as well as other actors of shared mobility saw their vehicles destroyed last night. Pure vandalism that Poppy obviously condemns. 

POPPY DOESN’T SUPPORT THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR 

Several damages were caused and people were injured. These overflows destroyed urban equipment, bicycles, kick scooters, as well as cars. Poppy doesn’t condone the vandalism and violence that took place throughout the street. 

Shared mobility and car sharing in Belgium is trying to make their place, especially in big cities like Brussels. Unfortunately, this kind of behavior makes the development of shared mobility in general even more complex. Poppy is not discouraged and stands up to these acts of vandalism. 

Poppy thanks the police force for their intervention and for maintaining public order following the outbursts. Let’s support each other, and not support this kind of behavior!

Disorder in the streets of Brussels: Poppy reacts ! 

Poppy Mobility, the 100% Belgian shared mobility start-up, continues to grow and develop across Belgium. Poppy is now offering its shared mobility service in a new city, Ghent.

It's been more than four and a half years since Poppy was launched in the city of Antwerp. In just a few years, Poppy has expanded to the cities of Brussels, Mechelen, the airports of Zaventem, Charleroi and Antwerp. Today, Poppy is expanding again in East Flanders, in the city of Ghent.

More than 80 free-floating vehicles are planned for the launch, but Poppy will not stop there.

POPPY MOBILITY, SHARED MOBILITY FOR EVERYONE

Poppy mobility is a shared mobility application offering self-service shared cars and electric kick scooters. This means that shared vehicles are parked on the streets of Brussels, Antwerp, Mechelen, Ghent and that you just have to select the vehicle closest to you and get there to start your trip.

The city of Ghent, named Belgian champion of sustainable mobility in 2018 by the German Wuppertal Institute, thanks to its mobility plan, numerous bike trips, the development of public transport as well as a precise parking policy, is now turning to shared cars to complete its transport offer.

POPPY LAUNCHES ITS E-SCOOTER SERVICE IN BRUSSELS 🛴

Poppy Mobility, the 100% Belgian shared mobility start-up, is celebrating another important step in its development by launching its new E-scooter service in Brussels. No less than 1500 E-scooters will join the Poppy fleet in the coming days. 

In 4 years, Poppy has built up a fleet of eco-responsible shared vehicles including more than 1000 cars and 2000 shared E-scooters in the cities of Brussels, Ghent, Mechelen and Antwerp as well as in 3 airports: Zaventem, Antwerp and Brussels South Charleroi. The freedom to move 24/7, at an ultra competitive all-inclusive price and in an ever-expanding zone, that's what Poppy is all about. 

Until now, the Poppy community has only been able to enjoy the kick scooters in the city of Antwerp, but now the service is available in Brussels. 

Choose a car, a kick scooter or both and move freely with Poppy. With the arrival of 1500 new kick scooters, Poppy focuses on multi-modality and is now the only app in Brussels offering 2 modes of transportation with radically different uses. Vans have also been added to the fleet, allowing users to use the service even when they need to transport heavier or bulky items. To make our different vehicles available and in good condition, we have a team who are always available to pick up the vehicles and take care of them. Our OPS team work like this:


🤳 First, they check and operate all vehicles via our work app

🛠 In case of mechanical & technical problems, they go on location and do the necessary to make these vehicles available

⛽️ They refuel and charge the vehicles 

📝 They schedule maintenance when they get notifications

🚨 They take actions on interventions/complaints... In case of urgent interventions, our fleet specialists go on site and review the situation 

⚠️ They look at the vehicles that have been parked in the same location for a long time and bring them to a densely populated zone so that it can be used again 

🧼 Our cleaning partner ensures that the cars are cleaned in/outside



This is our team OPS routine and they also takes action on the following objects: 


We would like to point out that these are shared vehicles, so there are people who have come before and people who will come after. You must therefore leave the vehicles in perfect condition. Some basic reminders: 

Think about the people who will use the car after you 🥰 In case of no respect of these rules, we will be in the obligation to make you pay a fine. We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that you can report directly at the beginning of your trip whether the vehicle is clean or not. If our OPS team see in the app that a vehicle need to be cleaned, they will directly send the cleaning company. They ensures that the vehicles are in good condition to use so don't forget to respect their work 🚀

But what about the car fleet? In June 2021 we also added 50 Volkswagen POLO for even more fun. With 600km of autonomy, it's the perfect car for your long journeys. Stay connected, more cars are coming very soon 🤫


As you already know... Unfortunately, we have not been able to find a long-term solution for our scooters and we have decided to stop this service as we will not be able to restart it anytime soon. Fortunately, Poppy continues to expand its car and scooter services in Brussels, Antwerp, and Mechelen 🌎


In May the big announcement was launched, Mechelen became our third official big city! Do you know intercity travel? This means that you can take a car from Brussels via Antwerp and leave it in Mechelen for example. Practical, isn't it? And yes, at Poppy you can do that as much as you want! 🚀

This one is the Polo 6: this model is bigger, more sportive, and more luxurious. 

Like the Seat Ibiza, the Polo has a manual gearbox. 

She runs on petrol and offers a comfortable autonomy of 600km. 

Small so easy to park but big enough to take your friend to the seaside.    

The key 🔑 to open the car is your app then you just have to push the "start button" once inside the car and you're ready to hit the road.
