How does it work? 🤔
Once you open the app again, it will send you a verification code by text message that you will need to enter. This will only happen one time when you open the app for the first time or after an update. This way, it will prevent someone else from using your account on another device.

What if you change your phone or reinstall the Poppy app? Then you will have to go through this procedure again. 🔄

4️⃣ Poppy Usage

Where can I get the keys to the car?

Poppy works most of the time with keyless systems. That means that there are no keys, the cars are equipped with a start/stop system and the scooters turn on automatically when you open them with the app. 📲

There are a few cars (9 Volkswagen e-Golfs and the SEAT Mii’s to be precise) that have a physical key.

Lesley will show you how to start a keyless car. ⬇️

Can I drive abroad with a Poppy?

No, you cannot drive abroad with a Poppy. You can only use Poppy in Belgium. 🇧🇪

You can drive everywhere in Belgium but you have to park the car in Brussels’ or Antwerp’s homezone at the end of your trip.

Why is my car not starting ?

This can happen for different reasons:

  • Have you managed to start the car ? On the Audi, you wil hear the engine. On the e-Golf, you will hear a sound indicating that the car is on. You can find out what this sound is in this video. 🔊
  • Is the gearshift of the automatic transmission in the correct position (D) for driving?
  • Is the battery charged enough or do you have enough fuel ?
  • Is the electronic parking brake undone ? ⬇️

If the line above the P is light up in orange, the parking brake is still on. You can turn it off by pressing on the button. ⬇️

In this video, you can see how Poppy works and if you forgot some information. 👀

If you can’t manage to start the car, you can still contact us at the following number +32 2 283 62 62. 📞

How does the GPS from the Volkswagen e-Golf work?

You sometimes don’t know how all the gadgets from the Volkswagen e-Golf work? The navigation system is one of the most useful tools in the car.📍

But how do you use this navigation?

  • On the top left of the screen, push on ‘Menu’ then select ’Navigation’.
  • You can use the touchscreen to make a forward or backward zoom ( respectively by pushing your index and thumb away from each other and pinching them) on the map.
  • If you want to choose your destination manually, clique on « New destination ». 👈
  • Select the name of your street, and eventually the house number. 🏡
  • Select your destination from the list. 📍

There you go, your itinerary is set and you can go! Careful on the road! 👊

What is the “mode” button from the Volkswagen e-Golf for?

The Volkswagen e-Golf can be set on three different modes: normal, eco and eco+. ♻️ You can change this by using the « Mode » button.

How do these modes work?

  • Normal 🚗 this is the standard mode of the car, the one you will use the most
  • Eco 🌱 this is the convivial mode, this means that the car will not be going at full speed and will consume less power. The air-conditioning will only work in a limited way.
  • Eco+ ♻️ in this position you will use the least possible energy and you will accelerate way slower, ideal for traffic jams. The air-conditioning is completely off in this mode.

You can also switch the gear stick from « D » to « B » ( battery) to save even more battery. You can do this by pulling a bit more on the gear stick. In the « B » position, the car slowly brakes automatically when you take your foot off the gas pedal. This way, because of the friction of the brakes, the battery will recharge a little bit.🔋

Can I change the position of the steering wheel?

  • Under the steering wheel, you will find a lever  🚗
  • Push down that lever⤵️
  • Move your steering wheel as you like it, it can be done horizontally ↔️ and vertically ↕️
  • When the steering wheel is in the correct position, pull the lever up so that the steering wheel is set again.

What do I have to do to book a car or a scooter?

You can book a Poppy for free for 15 minutes before your departure. To do this, you have to connect to the Poppy app and select the vehicle that you want. Next, click on ‘’Book this vehicle’’ below your screen. The vehicle will then be booked for you for 15 minutes and no one else can take it back.

How do I open the Poppy?

You can use the app to open a booked Poppy. Click on ‘’Open’’ the app and there you go! The car opens automatically and the scooter or kickscooter starts automatically if you are at less than 300m than the vehicle.

How do I start my trip?

You start your trip as soon as you unlock the vehicle with the app.

How do I do to stop my trip?

As soon as you have found a good place to give back your car in a Poppy zone, you can stop your trip. The only thing you have to do in the app is tap on ‘’End trip’’.

Don’t do this before stopping the engine, closed all the windows and the doors and getting out of your car because the vehicle will then shut down. For the scooter, don’t click on ‘’End trip’’ until you have put the helmet back in the trunk and that you have closed it firmly. 🛵

The app on my phone isn’t working (correctly), what should I do?

We are often doing updates of our app to better our service and make it easier to use. You can check that no updates are available in the App Store or the Google Play Store. 📱

Next, it is very important that you are connected to the Internet and activate your Bluetooth.

If you meet an error in the app, you can first try to disconnect yourself, close the app and also turn off your phone and turning it back on. Re-open the app and reconnect to retry

If all of the above indications do not work, you can contact us by e-mail via [email protected] or via the number +32 3 283 62 62. 📞

I can’t find my Poppy car at the place that is shown.

This problem can happen for two reasons.

  • Our GPS localization is not 100% precise. You have to look a bit further in the neighboring streets. 👀
  • In a more illegal and less frequent case, the previous user parked the car in his own garage. That’s absolutely forbidden, but there is not much else that you can do concerning this. You will have to take another vehicle.

In both cases, contact our customer service at + 32 3 283 62 62. We will show you the way to another vehicle.📲

Am I responsible for the cleaning of the car?

No, we make sur the cars are cleaned. 🙌🏻

We expect that you leave the car clean. If the car is dirty, you can report it to the Poppy team by sending a picture by e-mail to [email protected], via a message to our website’s chat or by signaling it in the app. 📧

If you leave some trash in the car or if (the inside of) the car is extremely dirty (for example food stains or dog hair), we can possibly charge you the cleaning fees. It will cost you 75 euros, so leave your car clean !

Het Poppy-team heeft dagelijks werknemers op de baan om wagens schoon te houden.
The poppy team has employees working every day to keep the cars clean.

How much time can I have a Poppy vehicle in my possession ?

You can use a Poppy car for a maximum of 2 days (48h) in Antwerp and a maximum of 1 day (24h) in Brussels and not longer. After the trip, you of course have to get the car back to the homeowner of Antwerp or Brussels.

A Poppy scooter can be in your possession for a maximum of 24 hours.

On the dashboard of the Audi A3 g-tron, a notification tells me that I have to get to the nearest gas station.

There is a lot of confusion because of the automatic notification of the Audi A3 g-tron shown when the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG, or natural gas) has run out. You will be asking to get to the nearest gas station to fill the CNG up.

Before you panic and take another car, first check that you can’t continue driving with the fuel (E10). The Audi has two tanks: one for the CNG and one for the fuel (as shown in the image of this article). It drives first in the most ecological way, the natural gas. ♻️

As soon as the CNG is (almost) empty, you will receive the message that you have to fuel up. However, with a full fuel tank, you can still go for over 600km. You can see both tanks’ capacity on the dashboard.

The green meter, on the left, is the CNG and the white meter, on the right, is for the fuel. If you see that you can still drive for a sufficient amount of kilometers with the fuel, you can simply start or continue your trip. 💚

The fuel tank is also empty and you have to fuel up again ? Then, you can choose, if you are in the zone you can park the car for good and change vehicle. Otherwise you can fuel the tank.

We will refund you the total amount paid and we will give you free minutes of trips to compensate for your stop. You can find the procedure to fill the tank here. ⬅️

How should I do to charge an entirely electric Volkswagen e-Golf ?

We charge all the Volkswagen e-Golf for you, but it could happen that you might have to charge the car yourself, follow these steps :

  • Park the car at a charging station.
  • Stop the engine, but don’t end the trip yet.
  • Take the cable out of the trunk and plug it in the car and in the charging station. 🔌
  • Pay with the charging card and put it back in the car. *
  • You will receive a message on the dashboard indicating that the car is charging.
  • End the trip or pause it so that the cable locks itself.

In our blog, you will fin a list of steps way more detailed and a short and practical video that shows you how you should do every step. ⚡️

⚠️ Note that, depending on the type of charger you will use, the time to charge the car varies. Count at least 4 to 5 hours so that the car is completely charged by a AC-carging station (like in the video).

*The charge card is in the glovebox. In case of a problem, you can call our customer service at + 32 3 283 62 62.

Is the fueling of the tank or the charge of the vehicle included in the price?

You don’t have to fuel up or charge the Poppy car yourself, we do it for you ! It is only when the car can travel less than 10 kilometers (you can see it on the dashboard of the car) that you have to fuel up or charge the car (we cover the costs).

If the charging cable of the vehicle is still plugged to a charging station, follow the next steps:

  • First, open the vehicle with the app. 📲
  • If you didn’t realize that the cable was plugged in, you will receive a notification on the dashboard quand you will try to turn on the car
  • Take out the charging cable and put it in the trunk of the car.*
  • Next, close the lid of the charging cable
  • Start driving ! 🚗💨

*When the cable is plugged in , you might have to first push on the lock button in the driver’s door and after on the unlock button. Then, the cable will detach normally immediately and you can take it out. ⬇️

If you don’t manage to take out the cable from the charging station, you might have to push it back in before taking it out. Occasionally, you might have to apply some force to disconnect the cable.

In this little video, the (charging ) process is explained clearly and briefly. ⚡️

How does an automatic transmission car work ?

At first glance, driving an automatic transmission can seem complicated, but once you get it, it’s very practical! 🙌🏻

Push on the brake and keep the lever of the gear stick pushed when you change position. Careful! Only use your right foot: when you drive, brake, and change position. Only change positions when the vehicle is stopped. 🚗

  • P = Parking: put on P when the car is parked. *

9️⃣ Parking

Where am I not allowed to park my car?

Category: 9️⃣ Parking

As in every city, there are a few parking spots that are forbidden/limited. To avoid bad surprises (tickets, fines or even towing of the car), you can’t park your Poppy vehicle in a zone in which a ban or limitation has been applied in the 24 hours after you have left your vehicle:

  • Delivery area
  • Kiss-and-ride zone
  • Booked zone
  • Parking zone for trucks 🚛
  • Parking zone for busses and school busses. 🚌
  • Market zone
  • Private garage/private alley
  • Places for people with disabilities ♿️
  • Parking spots for non-Poppy carsharing
  • Bus stops
  • Private parking of supermarkets 🛒
  • Rijnkaai parking area
  • Red zones
  • Parking spots with a temporary ban of parking or taking effect now or in the next 24 hours

Where can I do a break during my trip?

Category: 9️⃣ Parking

You can do breaks with your Poppy anywhere, inside or outside of the Poppy zones. Remember this:

When you do a break outside of the zones, you always have to respect the parking regulations. You are responsible for all the parking costs. Outside the zones, you have to buy a car park ticket if you are in a paid location. Keep in mind that you can’t end the trip outside the zone.

You can do breaks in the Poppy zones without having to worry about the parking meter or have to put your blue disk. All our Poppy’s in Antwerp and Brussels have a special parking permit that allows the Poppy members to park for free. This can be done anywhere in a public parking of the Poppy zone. 🎉

Automatic emails will be sent to you if your parking your Poppy near a temporary parking ban.

Category: 9️⃣ Parking

We will send you an automatic email when you parked your Poppy car near a temporary parking ban zone. 🚫

We will send you this message preventively so that you can move the car to avoid towing costs. However, our GPS isn’t 100% precise. So it’s possible that you aren’t actually wrongly parked, but just near the temporary parking ban zone.

Here is an example of such an email:

We send you this email so that you can move the car yourself if you didn’t know about the temporary parking ban and that you still are in the same area.

So be very careful about the surroundings and make sure the vehicle is parked correctly. 👀

As a reminder: you are responsible for your vehicle for the next 24 hours after your trip in case of a parking violation. If the car is not taken by another client in the next 24 hours and that the car is towed, we will, unfortunately, have to bill you the towing costs.

Has the car been moved by someone else in the next 24 hours? In this case, you will not be responsible for the vehicle anymore.

Parking a Poppy in an underground car park, is that allowed?

Category: 9️⃣ Parking

No, you can’t park a Poppy in an underground parking. This isn’t allowed for the following reasons:

  • The network in an underground parking is very bad, so you can’t open or close the car.  📲
  • If you park your car there, nobody else will be able to find it, except after a long search.
  • An underground parking isn’t a public parking, so not a free parking and it’s private, so you can’t end your trip here anyway!

You can only park underground if it’s an Interparking and if it’s indicated in the app. Find the Interpaking sites and how to get there here.

What happens if I park a car or a scooter outside of the Poppy zone?

Category: 9️⃣ Parking

You can’t end your trip outside the Poppy zone. You can do a break/stopover outside the zone and you then only pay 0,15€ per minute. 📍

When you finish your trip, you have to leave the car in the Poppy zone and end your trip there. 📲

Don’t forget: outside the Poppy zone, you can never end the trip, so the meter will continue to run.

You can’t drive a Poppy scooter outside of the homezone, so you can’t leave it there. 🛵

Yes, you can park for free in the Interparkings mentioned above. You will find the parking card (P-card) in the glove box.

Category: 9️⃣ Parking

You have free access to some Interparking (see the entire list below). There are little 🅿️ in the app.
To enter in those parking, you have to use the P-Card located in the glove box or in the left door (depending the vehicle).

How do you get to an Interparking?

  • You always have to scan the card, whether it’s at the entrance or the exit. Even if you want to end your trip, you still have to use the Interparking card.
  • The card is only valid for the Interparking mentioned here below.
  • Parking there is entirely free if you use the parking card. We will not refund the tickets that you take from the Interparking.
  • You have to park the car in the yellow reserved spots for car sharing.

🅿️ Antwerp
📍Interparking Meir: carsharing zone level 1

🅿️ Brussels
📍 Interparking Botanique: carsharing zone level 0
📍 Interparking Grand Place: carsharing zone level -1
📍 Interparking 2 Portes: carsharing zone level -1
📍 Interparking Stéphanie-Louise: carsharing zone level -1
📍 Interparking Woluwe Shopping Center: carsharing zone level 0 (outside)
📍 Interparking Stockel Square: carsharing zone level 0 (outside)
📍Interparking Monnaie: carsharing zone level -3

⚠️ Don’t park underground if it’s not in an authorized Interparking. Underground, the network is very weak or even non-existent. Therefore, you cannot end your journey and the car will be immobilized. If we have to move the car, this may incur costs.

Two Poppy's in Brussels Airport
From now on, you can also use a Poppy to get to Brussels Airport.

Where can I leave my car?

Category: 9️⃣ Parking

You can always park your Poppy car in the Poppy zones. In the Poppy zones, you can leave your car in every legal public parking spot. You can also park your car in every place where you normally need a parking card or a resident card, without having to show anything. 🙌🏻

In the Poppy zones of Antwerp or Brussels, it is not necessary to pay for a car park ticket in a public area except for the red zones (commercial areas – visible in the app). 🎉

So you can park for free in a public area in the Poppy zones, but there are also some places where you are absolutely not allowed to park. You can find them here.

Here’s what you have to do if there’s no Interparking card.

Category: 9️⃣ Parking
Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that a car is not equipped with an Interparking card, or that there is one, but the previous user has taken a ticket instead of scanning the card. But you don’t have to worry about anything. We also have a solution to this problem.
At each barrier, you will find a button to call the Interparking helpdesk. If you encounter another problem, simply press the button and briefly describe the situation. They will be happy to help you.
  • If there is a ticket and an Interparking card in the car, go to the terminal at the exit and call the intercom. The employee will then ask you to give the last six digits of the Interparking card to open the gate.
  • If there is no Interparking card, go to the terminal and give the employee the license plate of the car. In this case, he will also open the gate for you so that you can leave anyway.
