How to use Poppy’s new e-scooters 🛵

Poppy has launched new e-scooters and it’s got the feature you’ve all been asking for: it’s a two-seater! Learn more about how to use it in this blog post.

Out with the old scooters, in with the new! Poppy launched hundreds of scooters in Antwerp and Brussels and they have to be treated a little bit differently compared to our previous ones.

Like every Poppy vehicle, you first need to book the scooter with the app. Once you’ve done that and the vehicle has woken up, unlock the scooter with the app.

1. Grab your helmet ⛑

Let’s start with the one thing both scooters have in common: you can find two helmets in the trunk. You can find a size M and size XL. Instead of white, they look black now.

Open the trunk by pressing the red button.

Choose the helmet that fits you best. Put on the helmet and click the chin straps tightly. You release the helmet after your ride by pulling the red lever open.

You can open the trunk by pushing the big red button on the backside of the trunk. Be sure to close the trunk well after you took the helmet by pushing hard.

2. Starting the scooter 🛵

This is the tricky part. Once you unlocked the scooter with the app, you cannot immediately start driving. You first need to remove the scooter from the stand. Then you need to push and hold the green power button on the right steering wheel for 2 seconds.

The word ‘READY’ will then appear in green on the dashboard of the scooter. You are now ready to start your ride.

3. Going off 💨

Take a comfortable seat on the scooter, place one foot on the centerpiece and lean on the ground with the other foot as long as you stand still. Check if your mirrors are properly adjusted and you’re good to go!

Remove the scooter from the stand before leaving. Gently push the grey side handles for passengers to rest their feet.

Do you want to take a passenger with you? He or she can put his or her feet at the grey side handles. If they are folded in, you can unfold them by gently pressing them in.

You can depart by turning the right handle of the steering wheel towards you. Once you have gone off, place your other foot on the centerpiece and you’re gone! The brake on your right is the front brake and the brake on the left is your rear brake.

4. Left or right 🔛

Are you going to turn or change lanes? Then use the indicator at the left handle of the steering wheel. Push the button to the left to pinch left and right for the other side. You turn the indicator off again by pushing the button down.

Below the indicator, you will also find the horn, which you can only use in an emergency.

5. Finish 📲

Finally, if you’ve parked your scooter properly (read our FAQ!), you must put it back on the stand. There are two stands on this scooter. One like our previous scooter and one like a bike. You can choose between both stands.

Putting on the big stand can seem like a tough job, especially for the first time. Grab the scooter at the steering wheel and the seat. Push the stand down with your foot.

Now you have to put your entire weight on the stand, while you lift the scooter with both arms and pull it a little to the side. Once the scooter is upright, open the trunk and put your helmet back in. Close the trunk again and end your session with the app. You’re done!

6. Tips 💡

The scooter is quite heavy. So, keep your balance, both on and off the scooter. Also, make sure that you do not tilt the scooter too much when getting off of it. The weight could cause you to fall.

Be sure to read our FAQ before you start if you are not used to riding a scooter. 🤓
